The AP reported yesterday about the death of a sex offender.
A convicted sex offender died Sunday during a struggle with a father who found the naked man in or near his 17-year-old daughter’s bedroom, police said.
Police responding to a call from the city’s northwest side about 3:20 a.m. found 64-year-old Robert McNally on the hallway floor with his arm around the neck of 52-year-old David T. Meyers, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Mount said Meyers had a heart condition and may have had a heart attack. An autopsy was planned.
Police said Meyers was naked except for a mask and latex gloves and had entered the home through a window near the girl’s bedroom with rope, condoms and a knife. He was familiar with the home’s layout because it belonged to a relative, police said.
The girl awoke and screamed when she saw the man in her room, police said. The father responded and struggled with the intruder while the girl’s mother phoned 911.
Police did not anticipate any charges against McNally.
This is good news for Indianapolis. There is one less scumbag rapist on the streets there, thanks to Mr. McNally.
Add this to the news back in January, and Indianapolis is looking like the kind of place that criminals might want to avoid.

The justice is that Daddy defended his little girl and that the creep is dead and won't be attacking his (or anyone else's) relatives anymore. Let's hear it for tribal justice!
There's a creep living in my house right now who I don't particularly like, and don't particularly trust around my younger sister. Can I kill him too?

If the creep tries anything with your sister, you can tackle the guy and hold him for the police. If he happens to have a heart attack and die while you're holding him, you're in the clear. Don't kill him just because he's a creep.

Even if the father did kill him, the guy is in the room to rape a teenage girl. How on earth do you see the creep's death as a bad thing? You had no words of condemnation for the rapist, but immediately jump on the dad. This is a low one for you.
I have nothing but contempt for rapists, AICS. It's kind of implied that the act of breaking into a girl's room with the purpose of raping her is a contemptible act.
I believe in the rule of law, and that killing someone, even when they're breaking the law, is tribal justice and therefore not justice at all.
(To preface the self defence argument: yes, I believe that appropriate force is absolutely the right of any person. But simply using the event of an intruder to take out lethal force just because the person can? That's not self defence. I've even heard of people who shoot intruders dead merely because they were stealing the home owner's stuff.)

When the sanctity of my home is broken, I don't care if it looks like they are only there to take my stuff. The sanctity of the home is one of the highest human rights. I have no idea if he has a weapon, or a friend that I have not seen yet ready to harm me or one of my family members.
I will definitely shoot first and ask questions later and sleep like a baby after somebody cleans up the mess.
I am not trained through hours of training and simulations like a police officer to tell the exact moment it is clear that we are in danger. To attempt to wait until I think that moment has come, is foolish. Why should some creep get the benefit of the doubt that would put my family at risk.
To brand self protection with a negative spin such as "tribal justice" is ludicrous.
