Alan Keyes Enters Presidential Race...

...because we don't have enough GOP candidates yet.

WorldNetDaily reported today that Alan Keyes has announced his candidacy for the GOP presidential nomination.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After two previous runs for U.S. president, former Reagan diplomat Alan Keyes has announced he's again seeking the White House in the 2008 election, and he'll take part in Monday night's Republican presidential debate here.

I remember being impressed with a speech Keyes made, I think in 2000, when he was running for president. He was talking about abortion and said there's something seriously wrong with a country when its leaders declare bad things to be good and good things to be bad.

Keyes is strong on abortion in a way I want the country's leaders to be strong. But you can't get elected as a one-issue candidate. Just ask Tom Tancredo (border security is his issue) how well his campaign is going.

Alan Keyes has been unable to get the votes whenever he has run for major office.

Keyes ... ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination in 1996 and 2000. He sought an open U.S. Senate seat in Illinois in 2004, and was soundly defeated by Democrat Barack Obama who is also currently running for president. The 2004 race was the first to pit two blacks against each other in a Senate race.

Not a good record.

I don't know why so many politicians, like Alan Keyes, enjoy the public humiliation of being obliterated at the polls so much that they do it over and over again. His getting in the presidential race is making me want to cover my eyes so I don't have to watch what happens to him.

Isn't he the guy who disowned his daughter because it turned out she's a lesbian?
