Mel Gibson / Abe Foxman Update

It really is sad when someone you admire falls. Mel Gibson fell hard. And the fact that he's Mel Gibson meant his hard fall was a public one--full of glee on the part of his adversaries and their mouthpieces in the MSM.

Logic Lifeline has a great post (among many) on the situation with Hezbollah and Israel, and in the comments is this pointed exchange:

r2w:

Watch as many in the media who complain of Israel's overreacting will now come out and denounce the true enemy of the Jews, the one who is really evil, as evidenced by comments he made while in a drunken stupor - Mel Gibson.

All_I_Can_Stands:

Mel certainly has embarrassed himself big time. You are right. Annihilation of Jews is fine with the media, but don't slur them [the Jews]. (emphasis added)

Where is Abe Foxman of the Jewish Anti-Defamation League, when the MSM throws its obvious support and propaganda on the side of groups who would destroy not just Israel but all Jews? That question always baffles me.

There is an update, though, with Foxman and the ADL over Mel Gibson's tirade. The ADL has officially accepted Gibson's apology. Here is the text:

This is the apology we had sought and requested. We are glad that Mel Gibson has finally owned up to the fact that he made anti-Semitic remarks, and his apology sounds sincere. We welcome his efforts to repair the damage he has caused, to reach out to the Jewish community, and to seek help.

Once he completes his rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, we will be ready and willing to help him with his second rehabilitation to combat this disease of prejudice.

It sounds a little like the ADL wants to send Mel Gibson to a re-education camp, but maybe I'm reading too much into that last line of their statement. From my observations, though, I've found that regular people of any given group are usually better ambassadors for dispelling hatred than the professionally offended are. But I don't know how we can hook up Mel Gibson with regular Jewish people, since "regular" and "Hollywood" don't mix much.

I wish Mel Gibson a successful rehab.
