Democrats Cancel Nevada Presidential Debate

Barbara Simpson in her WorldNetDaily column today calls John Edwards a "Democrat Wuss" over it. Patrick Ruffini's post at Hugh Hewitt's blog Saturday was titled, "Democrats Wuss Out." I'm detecting a pattern.

Politico's article today didn't use the "W" word, but I presume that's because it's more of a straight news story.

The Nevada State Democratic Party is pulling out of a controversial presidential debate scheduled for Aug. 14 in Reno and co-hosted by Fox News, according to a letter released late Friday from state party chairman Tom Collins and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev).

The letter said Nevada Democrats had entered into the agreement with Fox, despite strong opposition from Democratic activist groups such as MoveOn.org, as a way of finding "new ways to talk to new people."

But Collins and Reid wrote that comments on Thursday by FOX News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, when he jokingly compared Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, to Osama bin Laden, "went too far," and prompted Nevada Democrats to end the partnership.

Riiiight.... The Obama/Osama joke was just a handy excuse for the Democrats' leadership to cave in to their far-left constituents and bow out of the debate. The fact that the Dems can't handle Fox News is indicative of their general lack of toughness. And hypocrisy.

When left-leaning news organizations host debates for Republican candidates, the Republicans don't cancel. The GOP is apparently more ready for hard questions than the Democrat Party.

I hear journalists over and over on Hugh Hewitt's radio show declaring that they're able to keep their own personal views out of their reporting and be objective on the job. These are lefty journalists, for the most part. And most politicians are willing to accept this journalistic belief at face value.

Unless the news organization is Fox News.

Barbara Simpson points out John Edwards' (and the rest of the caving-in Dems') ridiculous position:

The person in [the presidency] is supposed to be tough and resilient. He's supposed to embody courage and fortitude. He's supposed to be strong and resolute.

It's clear now that John Edwards isn't any of that and never will be, no matter how well his hair is styled.

Think of it. Our president must have what it takes to face the likes of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-il, Mahmoud Abbas or even Osama bin Laden.

How can we believe that Edwards could do that when he's spooked by the potential of being questioned by television reporters?

She's absolutely right.

This morning Laura Ingraham read a quote by Dennis Kucinich (Update: Link here - HT: Michelle Malkin), in which he stated that he'd be happy to debate his views on the war, the environment, and all the rest of the issues, with any of the candidates before any news organization, anytime and anywhere.

If I were a Democrat, at this point Kucinich would have my vote, because he's the only Democratic candidate who has the courage to face Fox News.

God help us if the Scaredocrats win.

CF,

The US doesn't have any left wing anythings.

OK. Fine. Have it your way. America has right-wingers and normal people.

But if the normal people can't handle American right-wingers, then how are they going to be able to deal with the really bad people in the world? Or, in your mind, are the only bad people the American right-wingers?

Are you saying Fox News is the right-wing equivalent to the Socialist Worker? Because if you are, then you and I live on completely different planets.

Your "Civilised people" are scattered throughout history... also known as the "conquered people."

You lefties "rise and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom that we provide, and then questions the manner in which we provide it"... to quote a certain general...

You whine and complain about the U.S.A. - all the while denying the undeniable... you owe us for every bit of goodness - every bit of freedom in your life.

Tyrants don't take it away - but not because you're "just so smart and clever..."

Tyrants are kept at bay because brave Americans spill their blood. I suspect you are a very little man.

CF,

In our "quest for global full spectrum dominance," I'm afraid we're falling down on the job. Where are the subjugated masses? Where are the oppressed living in misery at the hands of Americans?

The biggest misery I see right now around the world is in North Korea and in Africa (Zimbabwe, Sudan, Sierra Leone, etc.). I suppose you wold place the blame for the impingement on those lives at the feet of the USA? Or maybe just at the feet of Rupert Murdoch and his Fox News?

To me, a session of tough questions is an opportunity for a candidate to shine. Why would they run and hide from hard questions. Anybody can answer powder-puff questions.

The Democrats continue to show their cowardice. They duck votes, debates on the floor, debates on Fox, debates on college campuses. The whole time screaming their pet causes need more public debate.

CF,

You just blew past SkyPuppy's list - North Korea and in Africa (Zimbabwe, Sudan, Sierra Leone, etc.)to leap to Iraq and Afganistan. Please tell us how terrorists and sectarians killing innocents in those countries transfers to the US guilty of these things. Let's see, we have troops putting their lives on the line trying to stop these murderous thugs and you translate to the US being the oppressors. I have yet to hear one peep out of you against the true oppressors and subjugators around the globe including Cuba, China and Russia.

You libs simply have no bone of anger for the real bad guys. SkyePuppy is right, you mentally live on a different planet.

No liberals in the US - LMAO.

CF,

Speaking of cartoons, I am really starting to think you are siply having fun pulling our legs. Or you are a professor at UC Berkeley. Wow. It is like arguing with a blind man over what color to wear. I don't have time for games, so I'm out.

Using the word "Pathetic" seems to be the consistent response of liberals that spew nonsense they cannot support.

Do you ever question this notion of total superiority and pure intent on the part of your country and your countrymen?

Every election.

Do you ever look at history and see where this sort of unbridled nationalism and chauvanism takes people?

The last time there was "unbridled nationalism" was in Nazi Germany, but it was combined with envy and blame of the Jews for all of their problems. People then use this as an opportunity to knock nationalism. It is similar to the anti-gun arguments - instead of blaming the person, they blame the gun.

By the way, have you ever done a study where a country is plagued by anti-nationalism? I have not, but I think that would be interesting.

Do you ever stop to wonder whether the 6 billion odd people that distrust your country have cause?

No, I know why. It is envy combined with constant anti-American propaganda that is the root cause. Sure, the US is not perfect and isolated shortcomings provide ammunition for the masses to feed off of and grow it into the irrational anti-US dogma that you exhibit.
