SpaceWeather sent out a notice today that tonight's sky will hold a treat.
DON'T MISS THIS: When the sun sets tonight, go outside and look west. Venus and the crescent Moon will pop out of the twilight barely 1o apart. It's a spectacular and unforgettable pairing of the two brightest objects in the night sky: sky map.
Oh, what the heck. No need to look it up. Here's the sky map (click to enlarge):

Thanks to this post I stayed awake later than I should have, and then immediately fell asleep when it was time to look.
I dreamed about it though. However in my dream Venus became impaled upon the crescent moon - I don't think this EVER happens - and then I was suddenly at the Dairy Queen in Kokomo with illegals from Mexico.
Chris,
Your dream was much more spectacular than the sight of the sky at my house. Somebody went and put a really thick cloud layer between me and the sky. I have no idea Who would do such a thing...
The phenomenon will probably take place again in 2079... We will both most likely be retired by then... Maybe we can watch it together.
Chris,
Let's do that. I don't have any plans for then yet.
I went outside last night and said, "Wow -- look at that really bright start next to the moon!" It's nice to know that it was really something unusual.
CG,
I guess that lovely marine layer is the price I pay for living so close to the coast.
Great to hear from you again!
Wow, I saw that when I was working outside and pointed it out to my wife. Just now getting time to read about it.
